iPhone 3G still not coming to Luxembourg

June 10, 2008 · Posted in mac, news

I’ve just watched the WWDC 2008 Keynote presentation where Steve Jobs introduced the new iPhone 3G. At only 199$ for the 8Gb model there aren’t any excuses not to get one. By the end of the year this uber-phone will be available in 70 countries worldwide, but Luxembourg is not one of them. What the fudge? I don’t get it. How can one of the founding countries of the European Union not make a deal with Apple. All the primary schools in Luxembourg are operating with macs, but no iPhone for us. I guess I’ll just have to buy it in the UK with an overpriced O2 contract.

yes, it’s a shame! luxembourg has got an apple online store, an itunes store but no iphone. But how’re you gonna do that if you buy it in the UK? you’ll have to pay for the O2 membership, don’t you? and it’ll very expensive if you call sb from luxembourg?

Since I’m studying in the UK I’ll be using it nationally for half the time. You’re right though that it’ll get complicated when I’m in Luxembourg.

yes, I think it’s true. It was in the “Luxemburger Wort” newspaper today. seems quite official. But when exactly? And with which price for calling, internet, etc….

This is awesome. I really hope it’s true. They’ll certainly offer a data flatrate with it for a good price. After all Luxembourg’s got one of the lowest rates in Europe. Whohoo. That got me really excited now :)

Let’s hope we can stand in front of the vox-shop sometime before x-mas. It’ll be funny to stand with just a few geeks in line & think about other cities where hundreds/thousands are lined up to get their iPhone 3G.

I heard that 3G iPhone will come to Luxembourg this year but via Vodafone which should mean LUXGSM since they have Vodafone Live!

I’ve read somewhere on the net that it’ll come to Luxembourg via Orange. In my opinion it’s all just made up and I won’ believe it until I see it on the official apple site. I guess we’re just out of luck for now.

I can tell you that the I-phone will soon be sold in Luxemburg.
Apple concentrates on large markets first, and are very demanding in sales information in return. Mobile phone Operators have to comply with very strong requirement from Apple. All these setups create a lot of workload for the operators and smaller operators from smaller countries simply don’t have the manpower to respond to Apple requirements. (That’s why the operator that will sell the I-phone will receive them from one big European operator and not directly from apple. I’m working for that big operator so I know what I’m saying ;-))
I’ve heard that the I’phone should be sold in Lux before the end of September. Be patient!

Have you got any more information from the company you work for Nikos?

I asked in a vox shop yesterday if it would be released this month. The guy working there told me he couldn’t say anything, said he had also heard the rumours about September, and then smiled! Kind of makes me think it’ll be in the shops very soon! I hope so anyway!

Well, once it does arrive I guess I’ll see you in the queue of 4 people waiting to be the first to have it!

I just hope I’ll still be in Luxembourg by the time it arrives as I have to go back to uni in London. Plus it’s kind of trickey for me spending equal time in London as in Luxembourg. So I don’t know where to buy it. Luxembourg is the first choice though as the price plans are much lower than in the UK. We’ll see :)
