Massive Giveaway: 1000 free business cards from UPrinting

The kind folks over at UPrinting got in touch with me and asked whether I’d be interested in giving away 1000 free business cards to my readers. Obviously I said yes. So here we are now. I figured it would be best to split them and offer 4 people the chance to win 250 business cards.

“What’s the catch?” you might ask. There is none really. All you need to do is comment on this post and tell me why you think you should win, ie what would you use the business cards for? Make sure to provide a valid e-mail address when commenting. I will pick 4 comments at random, though particularly creative comments might get picked without a random generator. There is one other thing: you’re only allowed to comment once in order to be eligable.

The winners may choose any of their stocks, including the eco-friendly cover stock (13 pt. Cover Uncoated – Recycled) or the the 14 pt. family in Matte, AQ, or UV at any custom size such as square cards, odd sizes like 3×3, 2×2.

The deadline is 23nd October 2008 at midnight (GMT). I will announce the winners shortly after. Good luck to all of you!

  1. First off, when I had a job, ever month I would update my desktop with your wonderful artwork. My co-workers would ask,”Did you make that?”
“No,” I would reply every month, and then tell them it was you.
It only took the whole spring for them to look and go,”Fudge?”
“Yes,” I would say with a smile.

Second off, I was laid off this summer, and my unemployment it going to run out soon… I’ve been re-writing my resume, re-working my website, and starting to re-brand myself. So, I would use the business cards, to hopefully get me a job quicker. Yup, that’s pretty much it.

  2. I bought my first dslr 8 months ago. The main idea was to shoot my family and friends and now I’m getting the upportunity to take my first real shoot. Excited, scared, … Just love it! As I’m still in the progress of shooting as much as I can and for free ofcourse, I could really use these amasing business cards. Sorry for my bad english but I’m from Belgium Europe.
    Good luck everybody!

  3. I would use the cards to advertise a creative community for local people. I’ve always liked the idea of something local, but never been able to get it going.

  4. Ideally I’d like to pull off a really over the top and eye catching business card that would make it in the Daily Poetics flickr set – http://www.flickr.com/photos/dailypoetics/sets/72057594104389710/ . How much better to do it on the free! It also would be nice as I still have 600 really crappy cards that I designed when I thought I knew more than I really did.

  6. I’m getting the cards because five, which is half of the ten, of the Flickr pictures in this page are from me (I hope you don’t consider that spamming). I’m a bit selfish so I would simply use the cards to promote myself, which is what business cards usually do.

  7. This is first comment from me on your site(reason 1)….It would give me a reason to comment more(reason 2)….I would add a link to your site on my site(reason 3 and somewhat of a bribe)….and lastly I am at work trying to decide the reasons to win some business cards and not working(reason 4)

  8. I think spreading “Angscht a Schrecken zu L√ętzebuerg”, i.e. “Fear and Loathing in Luxembourg” would be worth it. And of course, Les jeunes Melancoliques should also get some cards for self-promotion in the world of literature.
And I am a fan of business cards since I was a kid and we had a horrible software called “DataBecker Vistenkartendruckerei”. ;-)

  9. I think that business cards are more powerfull than we think here in Spain most of the cards i see have really nice finish, so i would really use them to promote a web site (for original business cards) and leave them as “flyers” in cool and trendy shops near calle fuencarral. i was inspired when i saw a big cloud stuck on the floor and sais: “put a graphic designer in your life” on every pedestrian crossing until they dissapear it wa very very nice so yes i would use them very well

  10. Hi ;-)

I’m Robin, from Tagzeo and I read your blog as you can see :P Well, I would use the business cards to promote my web 2.0 service… :)

    Cya :)

  11. Hello!

I happen to be starting a graphic design studio and I have an incredibly small budget for it, I knew it was going to be really difficult considering the financing issue, but I decided I wasn’t just going to give up even if things were difficult (considering the country Im in, Bolivia) and funnily enough, I was saving money for my very first set of business cards, but it’s just the minimun amount and maybe it might not be enough to reach many possible clients, and the truth is, Im gonna need as much marketing help as I can get. The business cards are a kick start for my business! choose me mate! :D
Thank you either way! this website is already into my collection of inspiration and new techniques

  12. Nice post.Thanks..

  13. I’m in the business of graphic design and printing, and still remember how difficult it was finding suppliers that would allow me to print small runs,
which was necessary for me because of my just-starting-out clients and my “Just-Starting-Out” budget.

I personally don’t need the business cards, as I print my own on my digital and offset presses, usually at a minimum quantity of 1000 pieces. If I were to win the cards, I would most likely donate them to someone/a business who could use the help, not just wanting them because they’re free or as an incentive to participate more in a forum or discussion.

250 FREE Cards? Not a bad start, especially for someone who could really use it. I say we should welcome GAMALIEL into the industry by way of 250 free business cards, just like a corporation would give a new employee business cards. This will help boost the enthusiasm and drive to become a successful graphic designer.

If GAMALIEL doesn’t win them, I still wish for the business to take off like mine has.

Whoever wins the cards, congratulations… Good luck to everyone!

  14. if i win i guess im gonna use it in my future business and to promote my self

  15. Sahweet. Gimme, gimme, gimme the freebie. :) Keep up the good work. Been following your site by RSS for a while now.

    Thanks

  17. I’ve let down before with quality and service so this all sounds interesting…

  18. Being a student, I cannot afford advertising services to get the word out about my web design and branding services.

If I won these 250 business cards, I feel as though they could really boost my visibility in my college town!

By the way, thank you for offering us this wonderful opportunity!

  19. I think I have great fun designing them.

Then I would build a house of cards, and give them away to lots of people.

  20. It’s simple really. Who doesn’t like free stuff? Artists especially. I’d like 249 for myself and 1 to post in my design agency’s kitchen for props :-)

  21. Theres a similar Uprinting Give-Away at:
    http://www.ebloggy.net/2010/01/27/500-free-business-cards-contest.html
