FYI Monday: Cool Pop Culture Illustrations by Tom Whalen

This post is part of the For Your Inspiration Monday Series showcasing the most inspiring designs out there. Each week a new artist or design style will be presented in order to get your creative juices flowing for the upcoming week. I hope you enjoy the series.

Tom Whalen is an American illustrator from Royersford, PA. Tom’s amazing illustrations are mostly inspired by pop culture, such as comics and movies. I’ve always been a big fan of artist who incorporate their passions into their work and Tom absolutely hits the spot. The illustrations are playful and dark at the same time. Don’t just take my word for it though, have a look at the small selection below. For more inspiration visit Tom’s portfolio at www.strongstuff.net.

  1. Optimus Prime + Spiderman. Killer!

  2. Really slick illustrations, the simple block shapes are really bold yet the colour palettes give it that vintage magazine look. A few of these designs remind me of The Designers Republic with the robots and Japanese writing. I think the first design has to be my favourite for the big blocky shapes and colour palette.

  3. Yeah, outstanding stuff. I really like the throwback look in attack of the drive-in and fly with us. Cool retro…

  4. Really nice Illustrations,,thanks to sharing it!!
