The May 2013 Calendar Wallpaper, entitled M2, is minimal geometric design using fresh, summery colours. As the name suggests, this is a stylised form of the letter M (for May). The typography infused with vibrant colours, subtle textures and block shapes should get you in the mood for the upcoming hot summer days. The April 2013 Calendar Wallpaper goes by the name of Last Exit. This is a reference to the Pearl Jam song with the same title. In terms of design the wallpaper combines my favourite elements: type, geometric shapes and subtle textures. After the initial sketch I build all the shapes in Illustrator. Once they were exported as individual smart objects into Photoshop all I had to do was to add the textures and adjust the colours. The March 2013 Calendar Wallpaper goes by the name of Bricks. It is heavily inspired by minimal geometric design, the biggest influence being the Windows of New York project by José Guízar. I’ve always been a fan of this style and wanted to give it a go myself. The design itself isn’t based on any particular object. I’ve just added more and more shapes and played with the colours until I was happy with the composition. It might be a door, a window, a building or something completely different. The February 2013 Calendar Wallpaper is simply called Ampersand, for obvious reasons. Those of you that follow me on Instagram will have seen a couple of rough ampersand sketches, so for this wallpaper I took it a step further and created my own custom ampersand in Illustrator. Colour correction and texturising was done in Photoshop. I’m sure that’ll experiment more with custom typography as I’ve become quite obsessed with it over the past month or so. The January 2013 Calendar Wallpaper is called MMXIII. The main element is hand-drawn lettering of MMXIII with the quote ‘No More Excuses’. January is the time to make resolutions for the year to come. Mine is to stop messing around, stop finding excuses not to do something. Whatever your plans for 2013 are, don’t let anything get in the way of it. Just go for it. The December 2012 Calendar Wallpaper is called Cut and features a minimal Christmas tree as main element. I felt rather festive when designing this so it’s no surprise that I opted for a holiday-inspired graphic. The triangles were drawn in Illustrator using simple Shape Finder options. The November 2012 Calendar Wallpaper is called Shout and can be categorised as a minimal typographic design. I’ve been playing around with these letterforms for a client and decided to use them for this month’s calendar. The word ‘shout’ is a reminder that it’s alright to get frustrated some times. Shout it out, leave the office and go for a coffee or pint with mates. Or just go for a stroll in nature and soak in all the beautiful colours that autumn’s got to offer. The idea is remind of a vinyl as well as playing on the pumpkin orange for Halloween. It was great fun putting this together and I hope you like the design as much as I do.
