Issuu: Free online publishing

June 4, 2008 · Posted in news, resources, web · Comment

Issuu is a free online service that lets you publish e-books with a slick interface. I discovered it through DT Magazine which features James White in their latest edition. Issuu is more than just a publishing service though. It is also a community. Explore, discover and share content. There are great design related publications. I highly recommend to check it out. It would also make a great portfolio since you can view every e-book in fullscreen.

Rip off at gulfson.com

I’ve got my brushes up for less than a week now and the retard behind gulfson.com (google translated link) has already ripped me off. I am not the only one though. Many deviantart users got their work, especially PS Brushes, stolen. I urge you to check that you aren’t another victim. I believe it is more than fair to offer his work on deviantart for everyone else to use. To see people distributing them without permission or credit is outrageous. The design community is very open-minded and I hate when people abuse it. That’s it. **************

PicLens: great web browser plugin

April 24, 2008 · Posted in resources, web · 3 Comments

PicLens is the most amazing thing I’ve experienced lately. It is a plugin that lets you turn a simple photostream into an interactive module to browse images. It is really sad that there are no real screenshots available, but trust me. It is the bomb. It is supported by the major browsers, although it works best in firefox. If your lucky enough to an apple laptop with 2-finger scrolling enabled trackpad then you’re in for a treat.

Basically what the plugin does is project the pictures from flickr, deviantart, google, facebook, … onto a wall which you can zoom in on, turn left and right or simply lay back and enjoy a slideshow. It’s never been been more fun to look for inspiration. Let me know what you think about it.

Behance.net lets you build a dynamic, multimedia portfolio. It’s a sort of facebook for designers which allows you to connect and collaborate with other with others. It also offers job opportunities and insights for professional creatives. I’ve just been browsing through various profiles and they are amazing. You have to get approved in order to sign up. This helps to provide the highest quality of work. They also offer the possibility to become a watcher which probably allows you to comment and stuff like that. Go see for yourself. It’s definitely a great site for inspiration and to discover new artists!

Inspiration: Virb Profiles

April 15, 2008 · Posted in inspiration, web · 6 Comments

I really don’t understand why virb isn’t more popular. It offers everything myspace does plus a lot more. It’s so easy to design the page even with only little knowledge of css. You get widescreen videos, flickr and twitter integration. People are probably over stimulated with all these sites and don’t want to have another one of them. Maybe this will change their mind. I’ve compiled a list of 14 great virb designs which I want to share with you.
